NALI was formed in 1967 for legal investigators actively engaged in negligence investigations for the plaintiff and/or criminal defense. These investigators may be employed by law firms, public defenders or private investigative agencies. Our primary focus is to educate and advance the art and science of legal investigation, and to ensure the highest standard of professional ethics. This common bond establishes mutual trust, goodwill and friendship among our members.

The National Association of Legal Search Consultants is the national professional organization for the legal search profession and is committed to upholding the highest ethical standards in the field. The field of legal search consulting evolved in the late 1960's as a response to developing demands for specialized consulting services in the hiring of attorneys. Since then, the industry has grown dramatically and faces unlimited potential in the new century. However, in the early days of the profession, dialogue among legal search practitioners was virtually nonexistent and lack of consistent standards of practice marred the credibility of the legal search profession.
